Conference – Between research and heritage restoration. New ethical perspectives

March 18 and 19, 2026

The Interdepartmental Center for Research Ethics and Integrity (CID Ethics) of the CNR is co-organizing the conference “Between research and heritage restoration. New Ethical Perspectives,” with the Department of History, Anthropology, Religions, Art, and Entertainment (SARAS) of Sapienza University of Rome.

The event is one of the initiatives launched by CID Ethics as part of the “Ethics and Cultural Heritage” Research Unit.

The conference aims to provide an opportunity for reflection on the subject of Ethics in Cultural Heritage Research applied to the field of heritage restoration. One of the most suitable areas for cultivating this type of reflection is, in fact, restoration, which in recent years has undergone a transformation from ‘action on the heritage’ to a ‘social process’ in all respects. On the basis of the new reflections proposed by the Nara Declaration (1994), and following Italy’s ratification of the Faro Convention (2020), the disciplines related to the restoration and conservation of cultural heritage raise new questions that invite moments of shared reflection with the scientific community and the institutional partners involved in this cognitive process.
