EYE-TEACH

The European project EYE-TEACH (Eye-tracking and AI for Enhanced Teaching) aims to develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system based on eye-tracking data and designed to support teachers in improving the reading comprehension skills of primary and secondary school students.

Within this context, the CNR Interdepartmental Center for Research Ethics and Integrity (CID Ethics) contributes to the integration of an ethics by design approach, aimed at ensuring that ethical and social dimensions are considered from the earliest stages of the research activities and throughout the entire system development process. The CNR’s activities focus on the analysis of ethical issues and the assessment of the individual and social impact of this technology developed for the educational domain, with particular attention to safeguarding the interests, rights, and fundamental freedoms of the participants involved in empirical and experimental research activities. Special emphasis is placed on the protection of minor students, who are involved in evaluetng the system’s accuracy and security.

This proactive approach not only ensures the ethical sustainability of the ongoing project, but also aims to produce recommendations and guidelines to support researchers in the responsible development of AI systems in education. In doing so, it contributes to defining a reference framework for technological innovation grounded in human values, the protection of research participants, especially minors, and the strengthening of trust in the use of AI for educational purposes.
